With the continuing growth and expansion of 41 Sets, Doug Jeffrey never loses sight of his belief that ‘those who are blessed have an obligation to share their blessings’.
Even though his company already uses ‘Green’ methods and is environmentally protective in how it operates, Doug is always open to finding even more ways to share locally or globally.
There are many ways to share. You can write a check to established charities or, on various holidays, serve food to the homeless. But Doug prefers to have a more ongoing and ‘hands on’ approach when he gets involved.
And as good Karma rewards, so it happened that Doug was contacted by Cheryl Rich of AIM.
Located in Los Angeles, AIM is a nonprofit organization that strives to enable vulnerable youth from troubled backgrounds to turn their lives around and become directly productive within the community. It strives to find employment and training in fields that the individual youth already has a strong interest and turn that interest into a vocation.
As the Director of Community Outreach for AIM, Cheryl Rich had given a research assignment to two of her most inspiring youngsters being developed through her organization. The assignment was to research companies that are involved with fields of their personal interests.
To her surprise, not only did they do extensive research but both of them decided independently on the same company. That peaked her interest because she had not been aware of that company. That company was 41 Sets.
Cheryl Rich was under pressure because the young male was in danger of losing his housing in Covenant House and therefore would be homeless. AIM and Covenant House provide varying aspects of help to troubled youths who otherwise might be living on the streets.
Cheryl Rich wrote to 41 Sets and asked if any opportunities were available for selected youths she is developing and helping to turn their lives around. To her surprise, Doug responded and they promptly had an in-person meeting at 41 Sets.
The result of that meeting was a pilot program creating a trainee situation for that young man and albeit still in its’ initial stages, the rewards on both ends of the arrangement are exciting and promising. The goal of this internship is to allow the youth to gain skills that will be productive, providing both a sense of personal self worth but also financially stabilizing.
The long range intent is to develop a program whereby more of Cheryl’s youths may find employment and training with 41 Sets.
The presumption is that such experiences help to develop a strong work ethic and a positive self-awareness which can lead youths to become productive adults in society.
Both Doug and Cheryl Rich are excited about the current results and are looking forward to developing even more avenues for cooperation between their respective companies.
Cheryl Rich is the Community Outreach Director for A.I.M. a non-profit 501 (c) (3). A.I.M. was founded by Leila Steinberg in 1989 and is a multi-cultural organization dedicated to serving at-risk communities.
